About Us
Located in the beautiful and wild Okanogan Highlands, Whitestone Mountain Orchard is a 2nd and 3rd generation family owned and managed farm. Ted Lichtenfels began the stewardship of this orchard determined to prove that with enough initiative, creative problem solving and planning , a small farm could be sustainable for generations to come. Our mission is to grow certified organic fruit that is both delicious and nutritious and to bring vitality and balance to our farm ecosystem, our employees and the small, rural community in which we live.
We grow certified organic black currants, pears and 12 varieties of apples, specializing in heirloom varieties, Cosmic Crisp and Honey Crisp.
Growing & Operating Practices
Our growing methods are guided by biodynamic and regenerative farming principles. We view our orchard as a dynamic, unique system and we farm in a way that supports the health and vitality of the whole system, above and below ground. We recyle our on farm nutrients, creating our own compost from culled fruit and wood chippings from our annual tree prunings. We have set aside 5 acres of orchard for native plantings to enhance pollinator and beneficial insect habitat. Scattered throughout the 100 acres, are raptor poles for the owls and numerous hawks who help us keep our rodent population in balance. The result of our farming practices is fruit which is has superior taste, nutritional quality and sustained freshness. We are proud to be a certified Real Organic Project farm.
