The Washington State Cheesemakers Association works to support Washington cheese and cheesemakers through education, promotion, and collaboration amongst its members and partners.
There were fewer than 10 registered cheesemakers in Washington State in 2005. Now we boast more than 50 creameries who make over 200 varieties of cheese. This number represents cheeses from small family farms and artisan cheesemakers. Many of these cheeses are available only at Farmer’s Markets, but a growing number can be found through the creameries’ own websites and at local grocers.
WASCA is a member-based 501(c)6 nonprofit organization that was founded in 2015. We support membership at several levels: licensed cheesemakers, business members, corporate sponsors, and enthusiasts. Together with our partners, WASCA provides resources and opportunities to cheesemakers that are unavailable to them as individuals. Building strength and community in the industry benefits not only the cheesemakers but related industries, suppliers, and consumers. Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.
