Swinomish Shellfish Company

La Conner, WA

About Us

Native American owned and operated grower and purveyor of fresh, high-quality, live Oysters in the shell from North Puget Sound. The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community has harvested and consumed shellfish from the waters of the Salish Sea since time immemorial, applying practices that honor the ocean and the resources within through spiritual reverence, respect, and sustainability. Our oysters are grown using modern techniques, and harvested on Fidalgo Island in the northern end of Skagit Bay, WA. This area is know as Shais-quihl in Lushootseed, the Coast Salish language. We find ourselves truly blessed by the oysters delivered by our beautiful little bay. Just to top off the quality, we grade and hand-tumble our oysters just the right amount, giving Swinomish Shellfish Company oysters a deep cup, which they happily plump up to the brim with full meats every time.

Growing & Operating Practices

Intertidal oyster farming, using bag-on-bottom growout methods. We regularly flip, and periodically tumble-grade our crops to produce a consistently deep cupped and attractive oyster. Whether using high-tech vision grading or hand selecting our oysters we aim to supply a consistent, high quality product.
