About Us

Mama Bird is a 6 acre produce farm started by Lars Johnson and Mara Lawrence in 2014, second generation farmers drawn toward this work in the hopes to grow healthy local food for our community and family, and to steer away from the industrial food system.

We specialize in a unique baby greens mix, heirloom tomatoes, and a variety of veggies, cut flowers, arrangements for weddings and seed crops. You can find our produce and flowers at local restaurants and grocery stores as well as the Puget Sound Food Hub that has broadened our reach to Skagit, Whatcom and King counties.

We love our wild birds, salamanders, bugs and natural ecosystem, so we don't use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fungicides, Ever! We rotate and grow cover crops to enrich and add nutrients to our soil. Our little farm is surrounded by a creek, lots of trees and therefore has a healthy interwoven relationship of farm and forest. Mama Bird started out as raw land, an open field for grazing sheep. Over the years we have slowly built roads, a processing facility, greenhouses, brought in power, drilled a well, along with growing produce and flowers for our community.

We grow fresh food that tastes alive and fills you with goodness! Thanks for checking us out and supporting small local farms!

Growing & Operating Practices

We use all natural practices, no synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. We rotate crops, grow cover crops and amend with fertilizer and compost.
