About Us
Hopscotch Farm + Cannery is a human powered farm that grows heirloom produce and crafts farmstead pickles, relish, and jam for CSA, farmers market, and local groceries in Port Townsend, WA. Operating on a micro-scale, with approximately 1/2 acre in production, gives Meghan a personal connection to each and every veggie harvested and jar made, and every product is made with the upmost care and love. She is excited to weave together agricultural traditions, the craft of canning, and a sense of place in order to celebrate the abundance of the Olympic Peninsula.
Growing & Operating Practices
Hopscotch uses hand-tended organic and sustainable production methods that require few off-farm inputs or fossil fuels. Meghan's goal is to create a regenerative growing system that focuses on responsible soil management, environmental health, and nutrient dense produce. Specifically, she incorporates practices that will allow the land and ALL its inhabitants to thrive for generations to come:
- She uses permanent, raised beds and a no-till system that allows soil microorganisms to flourish.
- She employs thoughtful crop rotation (for soil health), incorporates crops to attract pollinators and beneficial insects (for pest control), and irrigates with a drip system (to conserve water).
- She maintains soil fertility with the use of compost, mulch, cover crops, and (as needed) organic amendments. She never uses chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides.
- She also tries to grow as many heirloom and open pollinated varieties as possible to promote biodiversity.
Hopscotch’s unique assortment of shelf-stable canned goods is crafted from farm-grown fruit, veggies & herbs - a “Farm to Jar” operation. By preserving the harvest during the abundance of the summer, Hopscotch can help you enjoy the essence of the Olympic Peninsula year-round. Think Beet Relish with Horseradish or Blueberry Preserves with Lemon + Thyme, distinctive fusions that you won’t find elsewhere.
