About Us
We specialize in humanely raised and handled, start to finish, all natural grass-fed beef and pastured pork. Our focus, above all, is being compassionate and mindful stewards of our animals and land; where that which we lovingly nurture, in turn, provides nourishing and wholesome food for our community. Our beef is available by pieces, bundles, quarters, halves, and wholes. Our pork is available by the half and whole hog only.
In addition to pigs and cattle, our farm is also home to a small herd of registered dairy goats, a flock of laying hens, gaggle of geese, and a large vegetable, herb, and cut flower garden.
Growing & Operating Practices
Our cattle are born, raised, and slaughtered on our farm. We strongly believe in nurturing the mother/baby bond and encourage all of our animals, including dairy animals, to raise their own young to a natural weaning age. We source our piglets from a local pig breeder who's farming practices align with our values. We do not use growth hormones or non-therapeutic antibiotics on our animals.
We use rotational grazing methods for all of our livestock during grazing season. Our pastures and hay fields grow without the use of sprays or chemical fertilizers. Our pigs naturally foraged diets are supplemented daily with fresh, home-raised dairy and locally milled grains, while our cattle receive a simple supplement of salt with trace minerals. During winter, we follow Best Management Practices. Our animals live in special Heavy Use Areas, designed for their comfort and well-being, and to reduce ecological impacts. Cattle are fed mixed grass hay, grass haylage, and salt with trace minerals during this time. Our beef is grass-fed and grass-finished only, unless noted otherwise. Very rarely we will add "spent brewery grains" to a finishing steer's diet (at the rate of 2% of its daily feed intake for 60 days). This is a by-product of beer making and sourced from a local craft brewery. It is non-GMO barley only, with the sugars removed. We never feed corn or soy to our cattle.
The manure our animals produce during winter is cleaned up daily and properly stored in custom designed dry stacks. It is then appropriately applied to our hay fields, vegetable, and flower gardens in the spring and summer. We also participate in ecology stewardship programs and work closely with our local conservation district!
