About Us
The mission of East of Eden Farm is to grow, prepare and celebrate good food! We are a small farm with a big vision: to restore the earth and ourselves. Our farm currently produces about a half acre of organically grown vegetables, herbs, flowers, and pasture raised pork. You can find our produce on the menu of several local restaurants and seven days a week at our farm stand on Patton Road. We host community events throughout the growing season and welcome visitors all the time - see you soon!
Growing & Operating Practices
Our farm is a working example of local agro-ecology. We are building soils from scratch, literally, with the help of animals. Our chickens and pigs do the initial sod busting and fertilizing. In exchange, we give them unlimited access to green pasture, fresh water, organic grain feeds, and whole food scraps. In addition to our own animals, we are also bringing in many tons of C-N balanced horse manure from our friends just down the road at Kelly Park Stables. We use this manure as thick winter mulch for our vegetable beds and as the base layer for our intensive windrow composting system.
Our goal here at East of Eden is to create healthy soil ecosystems through crop rotation, cover cropping, organically approved soil amendments and fertility from our animals. We work to minimize tillage and create most of what we need right here on the farm, thus requiring as few off-farm inputs as possible. If we are able to build soils in this way, using what would otherwise be waste as nutrients, then the plants will gladly grow and our farm will produce abundant, delicious and nutrient dense food with net positive impact to our community and our land.
