About Us

We grow oyster mushrooms on straw, feed spent straw to red wiggler worms and combine their castings with biochar from the TLUD used to cook the straw. We call this "Sequim Terra Preta" and plants thrive on it. Energy is carbon negative. Mushroom growing classes and kits avaliable. Learn to grow mushrooms: e-mail lowell@dietzfarm.com with "subscribe cultivators' list" in subject window.

Growing & Operating Practices

We use locally sourced straw to grow our mushrooms. Straw is cooked (pasteurized) using a smokeless wood gasification oven(T-LUD); biochar is the by-product. Adding biochar to soil results in carbon negative energy use and causes exponential increase in beneficial soil bacteria. Regenerative soil can be created by mixing biochar with worm castings. We call this "Sequim Terra Preta"; the formula is published on our website: dietzfarm.com.
