July 18 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Join Skal Beer Hall and Street Cheese in hosting world-renowned Swedish cheesemaker, Almnäs Bruk, for a cheese, bite, and libation pairing! Thomas Berglund, owner of Almnäs Bruk, will be in town all the way from Sweden to lead our class. You will learn about the farm, its history, and their cheesemaking technique while you delight your palate with their cheeses.

Your ticket includes two (1oz) tasters of cheese, two small bite pairings from the kitchen, and two mini Swedish libations from our bar. This event is produced in partnership with our favorite local cheese experts at Street Cheese! Cheese from the event will be available for take home for purchase.

An additional beverage pairing (with more cheese!) will be available for purchase the night of the event. Our full kitchen and bar will also be open during the class.

Learn More About Almnäs Bruk & Thomas:

Almnäs Bruk has been making cheese since the 1830s, and its Wrångebäck is the oldest registered cheese brand in Sweden. In 2023 Wrångebäck became the first cheese in Northern Europe to earn a PDO, or Protected Designation of Origin, designation from the EU. Both of the creamery’s export cheeses have won several awards and both have been presented at the Concours Mondial du Meilleur Fromager competition for the best cheesemonger in the world.

Almnäs Bruk is a Swedish manor located in Hjo that was first named in the oldest written document in the Swedish language, dated to 1225. Having been held by monks and later by the Swedish nobility, the manor was acquired by the Berglund family in 1916. Thomas Berglund grew up on the manor during its transition away from having a historical brick factory and during its break from cheesemaking from 1961 to 2008. Today he and his brother co-own the property, which includes a farm and creamery, as well as a solar farm that runs the power grid for the surrounding community. Thomas has served as CEO of Almnäs Bruk since 1987 and helped to revive cheesemaking on the property after it was temporarily halted between 1961 and 2008. In reviving the creamery, he also drove the creation of the creamery’s newest cheese, Almnäs Tegel.
