Eat Local! a 3-part campaign to encourage eating locally

The Salish Sea Transition Town Hub, which includes Port Townsend, Lopez, Fidalgo, and San Juan Islands, continues its Eat Local! Campaign during the month of August. Week Two of the campaign kicks off on Sunday, August 8th and goes through August 14th. Join us in our campaign to find and connect with our local farms, farm stands, and co-ops/food hubs The first week focused on Exploring. Week Two will focus on Sharing what we have discovered with family and friends.

There are many reasons to eat locally grown food (nutrition, freshness) but one of the most important reasons is this: to make a local food system a reality the farmers need eaters – that’s all of you out there – committing to purchasing the food shared at our numerous farm stands, CSAs, farmers markets, and co-ops or food hubs.

Eating Locally and Seasonally
Wondering how to use our locally grown foods? With the support of the regional Transition Hub, Lopez farmers Henning Sehmsdorf and Elizabeth Simpson recently published “Eating Locally and Seasonally,” a wonderful guide for cooking and preserving locally grown food. The book is available, for purchase or as a free e-book. on the Transition Lopez Island website at www.transitionlopezisland.org
