Mother’s Day is just around the corner: May 9th, 2021.  How about honoring the special moms in your life with a “Mother’s Day Bundle” full of locally grown, produced and harvested goodies that will be sure to delight?

Farm owner Anna Swanberg of Bent Gate Farms in Sequim has put together themed bundles that make honoring moms super easy (especially if you live on the Olympic Peninsula).  Live elsewhere, don’t fret!  Get your creativity on and use the Bent Gate Mother’s Day Bundles as inspiration to pull together your own special gift with just the right combination of local goodies.  There’s an amazing diversity of products available from farms across the state to create a gift that can show the moms in your life how much appreciation you have for the unique people they are.

Anna used the WA Food & Farm Finder to help create her Mother’s Day Bundles and you can too!  She says, “the WA F&FF site has been great in helping me find farms I previously didn’t know about.  My favorite feature is the map which allows me to quickly find farms close by and easily navigate to their website and contact information.”

Anna, who produces pastured meats and tallow-based artisan soaps with her family at Bent Gate, has collaborated with local farmers, producers, restaurants and businesses to put together four special themed bundles: The Foodie Bundle, The Gardener Bundle, The Spa Day Bundle and The Mother Load Bundle.  Would any of these themes resonate with the moms in your life?

The Mother Load Bundle

Depending upon the bundle, there’s a combination of:  locally grown organic plant starts, worm tea concentrate, DIY mushroom growing kit, lavender dryer bag, lavender salt scrub, lavender candle, homemade hand soap, Douglas-fir hand salve, waterleaf lip balm, special locally grown and harvested tea blend, small batch local honey, organic wood-fired bread made with local flour, green onion powder, organic salad mix and micro-greens, locally made sauerkraut, or “Painted Mountain” flour corn with recipes to make yummy cornbread, polenta or pancakes.  All of Bent Gate’s bundles come with a special watercolor art card created by a local farmer so you can add your own personal note, and the bundles come in a limited edition burlap bag.  And a bonus, buying in these bundles saves you money over buying all the items individually.  Order your bundle today or explore to get inspired to create your own local bundle.

Anna gives out a big thank you to Chi’s Farm, Goodness Tea Farm, SisterLand Farms, Jardin du Soleil Lavender, B & B Family Farm, Sequim Prairie Star, Joy Farm, Dietz Mushroom Farm, River Run Farm, Getting Cultured, Olympic Onion Power, Good Green Earth, Alder Wood Bistro, Full Moon Candle Co, and Bagley Creek Outfitters for participating in this collaborative project.  She also gives thanks to the WA Food & Farm Finder for creating an on-line tool that made it easy to locate new farms to collaborate with.  And thanks to Anna for her work on creating these lovely bundles for all the mothers out there and giving us all some inspiring ideas on how to support our local farmers and producers!

While these Mother’s Day Bundles are a new collaboration effort for Anna, collaboration itself is not new to her.  Bent Gate has been offering their own meat CSA, but also offers a CSA share in partnership with Scott Chichester of Chi’s Farm.  The collaborative CSA pairs Bent Gate’s pastured meats with Chi’s veggies.  Anna, and her husband Bryan, first met Scott years ago playing soccer and, when their paths later crossed in the agricultural community, she says “the cross marketing partnership between our two farms formed ‘organically’ (pun intended).”  The partnership allows each farm to specialize in what they are good at while providing customers with access to a wide variety of local foods in a convenient way. Anna says, “Our members like having two farms in one place.  It’s easier for them to manage one pickup day and location.”

Just as a combined box of goodies from multiple local farms can make honoring moms convenient, a combined CSA can help make meal planning easy too by providing what you need to create a whole meal from one convenient location.  So once you’re done taking care of the moms in your life, take care of yourself too!  Whether you choose to treat yourself to your own Mother’s Day Bundle, a collaborative CSA like the one Bent Gate Farms and Chi’s Farm offer, or any of the other amazing and diverse products being produced here in Washington, the WA Food & Farm Finder can help you find what you are looking for.  And it will probably help you find some new and exciting things you didn’t even know you were looking for!
